Pogwood: A name known by few. A place hidden from man, but revealed to
a
handful of children each century. Endangered by man’s continual
expansion into the
forest, the fate of Pogwood, and its secret Fairy civilization of Knod,
rests in the hands of four children. Will the children be able to save
Knod, or will this world, like many before it, become a mere shadow in
the annals of time?
BOOK 1: Secrets of the Unseen Forest
In 1918, a young boy
named Gaelin Wentwood mysteriously disappears into the
forest after the death of his parents. Nearly a century later, the Mead
family from New
York City moves into Gaelin’s old farmhouse in the mountains. The eleven
year old
Mead twins, Hanna and David, discover the records of a secret society
(The
Pogwood Society) established by Gaelin and his best friend Ben. Among
these
records is a map to a secret forest, Pogwood. With the help of their
reckless twelve
year old neighbor, Isabella, and their curious little brother, Ali, the
Mead children
locate the mysterious hidden forest. There, they discover a society of
Cave Fairies
suffering from a mysterious illness. In their quest to save the Cave
Fairies, the
children find a colony of hideous giant centipedes, a lake with a
secret, and a century-
old man with a familiar name. The children eventually solve the mystery
of the great
sickness, but will they be able to fix it before it’s too late? With
the fate of an entire
civilization in their hands, the children battle forces both human and
nonhuman in a
race against time.
In Secrets of the Unseen Forest, courage, intelligence, and
determination wins out
over the most overwhelming of odds.
BOOK 2: The Knollwood Rescue
The Mead children and
Isabella are just ending the school year when they learn that
the forest next to Pogwood, Knollwood Forest, is about to be torn down
to build a
housing complex. Disappointed about the loss of forest, but relieved
that it isn't
Pogwood, the children share this information with the Cave Fairies of
Knod. Punto,
the scout of Knod, reveals Knollwood's hidden secret, that it is home to
the Snow
Fairies. Hibernating through the summer in holes under large trees, the
Snow
Fairies are helpless. Will the children be able to save the Snow
Fairies? And, if they
do, will the pale Snow Fairies and the dark Cave Fairies learn to get
along, or will one
of the two civilizations have to risk moving out into the dangers of the
night forest,
where bands of snarling carnicoons and giant flying Bondors threaten to
wipe out
their species?
The Knollwood Rescue is about getting along with others who are
different than
yourself, and having the courage to stand up for your friends, even if
they are different.
BOOK 3: Voices of the Deep (in
progress)
The Mead
children return to Maple Hollow to spend the summer breathing fresh air
and visiting Pogwood Forest. While swimming in Pogwood Lake, the
children hear
cries echoing from the depths. Using the methods of the Snow Fairies,
the children
dive into the deep waters, and discover the hidden world of the Lake
Sprites. The
Lake Sprites are being held captive by a giant water creature displaced
from
Knollwood Lake by the construction. This creature is even more cruel
than the local
bullies, Sammy and Kevin, that have teased Isabella for as long as she
can
remember. When Sammy inadvertently ends up in Pogwood Forest, will the
children
of the Pogwood Society learn what lies deep beneath the surface of those
who are
cruel to others? Will they be able to use what they learn to save the
Lake Sprites
from certain doom?
Voices of the Deep is about how people come to be cruel to others, and
how
friendship can help them to overcome their anger in favor of kindness.
